ひらがなは、平安時代初期（９世紀ごろ）に生まれた音節文字です。漢字と組み合わせて文章を完成させます。文字の形は曲線的です。
ひらがなは漢字を思い切ってくずし、日本語の音を表すために作られた文字です。純粋なる音節文字であり、元となる漢字の意味は持ちあわせていません。
Hiragana are phonetic characters created at the beginning of the Heian period (around the 9th century). They are used in combination with Kanji to form a sentence. Hiragana are curvilinear characters.
The forms of the hiragana originate from the cursive script style of Chinese calligraphy in order to represent the sounds of Japanese. Pure syllabic symbols, they carry none of the meanings originally conveyed by the Kanji form which they derive.
